This is another super late post for stuff that happened in August. First off, I was walking home from school one night at around 1:00 AM and saw this super crazy red moon in the sky. I stood there for probably 10 minutes trying to get a good photo of it and trying to figure out if it really was a moon or not. The thing was incredibly big and very low and I wasn’t debating whether it was a satellite dish or something. However when I came back the next day in the morning, I didn’t see anything round in the vicinity that could’ve been mistaken as a moon at night =/
I went to the circus early August this year with my family. It was a very small circus and was at a plaza very close to my house. The whole show was about 3-4 hours long with an intermission in the middle.
Late August, our family got a cat after much debate of whether to get a cat or a dog. We named her Whiskey and she was slightly over 1 year old when we adopted her. The kids at her old home developed a severe allergy to cats so the family couldn’t keep her anymore. We got her spayed a week after we got her since she was an adult cat and she already had a litter of kittens, hence why you will see her with a cone around her head in the following photos.
So I disappeared for three months again. This will be my super late summary of what how FanExp 2012 went, which if I were to describe it in one word, would be tiring. This was my second time attending FanExpo, but my first time selling there, and my second time tabling at a convention ever. I shared a table with June, but since she was on an internship, she couldn’t make it for Thursday or Friday, which meant I manned the table by myself for the first two days. I drove to her house the weekend prior to the convention to decide on the placements of all our prints and to pick up her merchandise. June also had to give me a run-down on the names of all the My Little Ponies since she was selling a whole set of like 12 of them D8< and forgetting their names was one of my biggest concerns going in to the convention haha. However I am proud to say I know all their names after the first day and can even give pony recommendations to people who are buying them for friends xD
June gave me her PVC pipes for our display, but it wasn't very stable o__o So I spent the next few days at Home Depot with my dad trying to figure out a better and more stable construction for our display. However in the end, we just ended up buying a clothes rack from Wal-Mart for around $22, which in my opinion works brilliantly. It's completely collapsible and can be easily set-up and taken down. It was also extreme sturdy ; D
A picture of our display in my dinning room the night before the convention! (I think you can see one of my sister's foot in the corner of the photo lol)
I cosplayed on the 2nd and 3rd day of the convention as Saya from Blood-C and my costume was custom-made by my mom C: There were some people who asked for photos but I completely forgot to think of poses beforehand so it was kind of awkward haha. I also flagged down other cosplayers throughout the 4 days I was there >8D There was a group of Yugi-Oh cosplayers on the first day that walked past my table and I screamed at them to stop so I could get a photo for June. I love how brightly-coloured they all are.
At the end of the 1st day, I was about to leave when I saw a group of Halo guys walking around in my aisle. There costumes were really epic and flashed pretty lights. I also learned they had fans installed inside for ventilation or they would just die. I asked them for a picture and told them to shot at their plain-clothed friend and this is the result.
This guy was surrounded by a whole crowd of people though I only saw him when he was about to leave. I made him stay for one more photo in which I felt pretty of bad because apparently he was standing in that same place for 40 minutes and couldn’t move because of the large crowd. ;A;
I knew there was a Sakura River both at FanExpo this year again but it took me a while to locate it. I did all the art for their 2nd game, Infinite Game Works. Their first game, Fading Hearts, was done by Kaze-Hime. It’s pretty cool to see your own artwork blown up as a banner standing next to a banner done by such a popular artist like Kaze-Hime ;w; That was a good day.
And a commission of Riza Hawkeye from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. I’ve seen a few episodes of the first Fullmetal series, but stopped because it was just too heart-wrenching since awesome people kept dying (though I did watched the full Brotherhood series last month because I heard it was happier lol).
On Thursday or Friday (I already forgot which) Stan Lee apparently walked by our aisle. I was drawing something when it happened and just looked up to see a mob of people passing by and people shouting “OMG DID YOU SEE THAT WAS STAN LEE.”
I had pho with June in Chinatown on the last day. It was a long walk to Chinatown and the fact I was pulling a suitcase behind me while wearing heels didn’t help. Someone please remind me to bring a pair of flats if I ever get the brilliant idea to wear heels all day. We ordered desserts to go with our meal, but I didn’t know how to eat the one I ordered lol. After a couple of minutes of pathetic stabbing at the thing, a waitress took pity on me and told me I was supposed to stire the entire thing before eating it OTL
I’m sitting in Starbucks right now since I don’t have internet at home, and I remembered to bring my camera this time so I can finally upload Ai-Kon photos. : D
I flew to Manitoba to attend Ai-kon 2 weeks ago with FalseDelusion. The days leading up to the convention were hell since I had 2 midterms, 1 major case presentation for class, and I was also finishing up a few posters before the convention.
But I had a great time at the convention even though I didn’t make as much as I had hoped. It was very fun so no regrets 8D It was also my first time selling so I was really clueless in a lot of things. It took me more than twice as long setting up as all the other artists because I was a noob and didn’t know how to do anything. Though I learned lots! Where you place the posters are very important. The poster I sold the most of during the entire convention, I didn’t sell even one copy on the first day because I placed it at the very top. I rearranged a lot of my stuff on the second day, and instead of putting my favourite ones up top, I placed them at eye level where they sold a lot better.
One thing that really pissed me off was that I ordered postcards from Vistaprint and paid for rush delivery, and the website said they were scheduled to arrive at my hotel on Friday at the latest, and they never did. I made the hotel employees run around the place looking for my package at least 4 times checking multiple offices and places that it could be. They were really nice about it and looked really sad whenever they came back to tell me they couldn’t find anything. Thank you Delta Hotel employees!
The postcards didn’t end up arriving until Monday afternoon, and I had already flown back to Waterloo that morning. So I ended up with having only postcards and nothing else =| Lots of people came and asked for smaller sizes of my prints too, and I had tell them I had nothing else. OTL
Now for the photos:
Pictures of some awesome cosplayers I chased down. There were a lot of other really epic ones but I was too shy to ask or didn’t have my camera on me ;A; There was this really, really awesome Devil May Cry one at the hotel too when I was waiting for the elevator. It was of Dante and Lady, and they were both hot. Lady had her really bad-ass looking weapon too that was probably taller than me. There was this normal middle-age man (who was not there for the convention) with his toddler daughter waiting for the elevator with us and he was eyeing the two cosplayers and was probably thinking, I do not want to get on the elevator with these freaks haha. It was very entertaining to watch. But GAHHHH I WISH I COULD”VE GOTTEN A PHOTO.
And that concludes my Ai-Kon report. CAN”T WAIT FOR FANEXPO!
I’m in Winnipeg selling at my first convention this weekend! The week leading up to this week was hell though, I averaged less than 3 hours of sleep per day for at least 5 consecutive days. I shall post up pictures of the convention when I have the time.
